How to Swaddle Your Cat at Home

Swaddling a cat, also known as a burrito or towel restraint, can be a helpful technique to calm your cat and make it easier to handle them for medical procedures or grooming. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to swaddle a cat:

• Choose a Comfortable Location
  • Find a comfortable location for swaddling your cat. It can be helpful to use a table or counter with a non-slip surface, or a soft surface like a bed or couch.
• Gather Your Supplies
  • You’ll need a large towel or blanket to wrap around your cat, as well as a few treats to reward them for good behavior.
• Place the Towel
  • Place the towel or blanket on the surface you’ve chosen, with one end folded up slightly to make a pocket.
• Position the Cat
  • Place your cat on the towel with their back legs in the pocket of the towel. Hold your cat gently but firmly to keep them in place.
• Wrap the Towel
  • Bring one end of the towel over your cat’s back and tuck it under their belly. Then, bring the other end of the towel over your cat’s back and tuck it under their belly as well. You should have a snug but not too tight wrap around your cat’s body.
• Secure the Towel
  • Fold the sides of the towel in towards your cat’s body and tuck them under their belly. This will help to keep the towel securely in place.
• Check the Fit
  • Make sure that the towel isn’t too tight and that your cat can breathe comfortably. Check that their paws are tucked inside the towel and not caught or uncomfortable.
